SUCCESS STORIES

Aligning People, Process and Structure
  • As one of the fastest growing, non-profit organizations in the healthcare sector, this client required a thorough AND rapid analysis of the organization before it grew out of alignment. The organization's structure, processes, and roles were quickly moving toward being sub-optimal. We worked with this organization to assess their current structure, processes, and people against the planned growth over the next 5 years as well as look at potential succession for key roles. Our methods of engaging people across the organization allowed us to quickly identify & prioritize issues, develop practical solutions and deliver a roadmap that could be implemented with confidence. The client learned new insights about the organization giving them confidence to move forward with changes and improvements. Other leaders and physicians across the organization appreciated being involved in the process which reduced fear and lead to a high degree of buy-in for the proposed changes.

"Amanda has a broad-based background which lends itself particularly well to the world of consulting and coaching. Her professionalism, business savvy and great sense of humor are an asset to any client interaction. She drives results, but throughout remains a true pleasure to work with."

Experience working in Organizational Effectiveness:

10+ years

Most relevant career experience:

Seven years in biotech/life-sciences and healthcare including Seattle Biomedical Research Center and HealthPoint (formerly Community Health Centers of King County). Start-up, high-tech experience with N2H2, Inc.; and several years' overseas (Micronesia) leading skill-based training and small business initiatives for women-owned businesses - including cross-cultural training through the University of Oregon.

Greatest Professional Achievement So Far:

Nurturing the discovery of the "aha" moment when a highly skilled individual (researcher, doctor, engineer) begins to unravel the mystery of human performance on their own terms.

Greatest strengths shared with clients:

The ability to quickly analyze and assess a situation to move the individual or group efficiently towards their goal. Strong group facilitation and individual coaching skills.

Education and Training:

Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Cross-Cultural Communication from the University of Oregon. Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR); Consultant Partner, Netspeed Learning Solutions.

Two GREAT leaders:

Nelson Mandela because he so strongly aligned his personal beliefs with his actions and acted from a place of courage, even when afraid - great things happen when your life work is so powerfully supported by your own belief and value systems and you have the courage to stay on course.

My four year-old daughter, Molly, because of her ability to live in the moment, have such a wise knowledge base and live leadership effortlessly without even knowing it. EX: "Mom, sometimes at school I paint a picture for my friend with colors that I like, even if she doesn't, and other times I ask her which colors she wants me to use" (knows when to lead and when to follow) "Mom, did you know that when you pull on one block that is touching other blocks, they all fall down?" (systems thinker) "Mom, I can't eat my dinner right now, I'm helping Sarah, because I'm a Big Sister" (understands the importance of meeting the needs of all team members, not just self)

When I'm not a consultant:

I'm a Mom - to two beautiful girls and one loveable chocolate lab - married to a talented Product guy (and home builder...), enjoy being in the trees or at the beach at Lincoln Park, and with friends, family, good food and wine.
